One of the features included in LearnPad is increased functionality for Teachers. LearnPad has implemented this with a "Default Tools" and "Teacher" menu, each giving you shortcuts to things such as Handouts, Kingsoft Office, a Web Browser that is not restricted and individual Device Settings and tools such as the Gallery and Camera. One issue we ran in to is that we wanted to be able to modify these and customise the shortcuts, such as adding a link to the Google Play Store. On the previous version of LearnPad (still listed in their FAQ) you could do this by simply creating a category and adding it while creating a lesson. However, the steps have changed:
Viewing Organisation Settings
At the top right of the screen where it shows your username and organisation name, click on the organisation name.
You should be taken to a page which has all sorts of information listed about your organisation. Here you will see several dropdown boxes such as Teacher Category, Tools Category and Default Lesson. By using these dropdowns you can select a custom made category to use for these menus instead. You will however have to create a category to use first before you see it in this list.
If like us however you simply want to add to what is currently there, you can make a copy of LearnPad's current menus and edit them. To do this:
Customising the Teacher Category
The easiest way to customise the teacher category is to copy the default one and apply it to all your lessons.
Open the default Teacher category. This can be done from any lesson or by following this link. Note that you cannot edit this category because it doesn't belong to your organisation.
Tap the Copy Category link in the Action bar and copy the teacher category. You might want to change the name to avoid confusion.
You will now be able to customise this category, but it will not become available on your LearnPads until it is assigned to the specific dropdown in your organisations details.
Customising the Tools Category
The easiest way to customise the tools category is to copy the default one and apply it to all your lessons.
Open the default Tools category. This can be done from any lesson or by following this link. Note that you cannot edit this category because it doesn't belong to your organisation.
Tap the Copy Category link in the Action bar and copy the tools category. You might want to change the name to avoid confusion.
