The Scratch team at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) have announced a collaboration with Google to produce Scratch 3. This will be written entirely in HTML5 and so will run on tablets such as the iPad as well as on PCs and laptops.
Scratch 2 does not run on iPads because it uses Flash which is not supported (see lexlearn.info/thread/263/scratch-on-ipad).
ScratchJR, a cutdown version of Scratch, is an iPad app and the new version of Scratch will be a combination of Scratch, ScratchJR and Google's Blockly.
The full announcement is at scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/199904/
