What is it? a Scratch-like programming language
What are the differences? Tynker has extra 'scientific' features such as gravity, force, torque and friction. It has apps for ipad and android tablet but they are not free. You need to sign up to use the online tools - cost is $50 for parents/home use - school price varies from free for basic tools, to $399 for 30 pupils to use the complete set of tools. Tynker aims to provide a complete coding curriculum based on creating games.
Are there other online programming tools that can be used in school? Lots and lots - the majority are free. In particular it is worth looking at Google's Blockly and Berkeley’s Snap! as well as j2Code.
