The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has released Scratchjr (junior version) for iOS devices (iPad). It is available free from the Apps Store. A version for Android tablets is planned but is dependent on donations to pay for the work required.

One of the drawbacks with ScratchJR is that projects cannot be shared.
Now they can. Download the latest version from the iTunes store.
'Share your ScratchJr projects with other iPad users via Email and Airdrop! Sharing options are in the Project Information screen (top right of the project editor).'

Now ScratchJR is also available on Android devices (tablets and phones) but they need to be running Android 4.4 (KitKat) or higher.

More information is on the Google Play site.
